Overview

North of the Blue Hole the road ends. The coast beyond it is the Ras Abu Galum protected area: Bedouin beach camps and coral reefs, and no cars from Dahab. This day trip goes in by boat. You drive to the Blue Hole, then a speedboat takes about 20 minutes up the coast to Ras Abu Galum, where you snorkel over a shallow plateau of hard coral and coral gardens and eat a lunch cooked by Bedouin hosts. Then you continue to the Blue Lagoon, a sheltered turquoise lagoon with a sandy bottom, separated from the sea by a thin strip of sand and rock. The water starts shallow and gets deeper further out, and because it is cut off from the open sea it is usually calm — this part of the day is for swimming and relaxing rather than snorkelling. Beach huts sell drinks and snacks. The last boats leave before sunset, so the trip takes the whole day and you are back in Dahab in the late afternoon.

How booking works:

Pick your date and group size and hit Request to book — there is no payment online. We check availability with the local operator and confirm within a few hours, then you pay them directly on the day. Prices shown are indicative and confirmed before you commit.

Safety & cancellation

Cancellation

You don't pay anything when you request a date, so there's no deposit and nothing to refund. If your plans change, message us on WhatsApp as early as you can so we can free up the spot with the operator. Some operators may have their own on-the-day policy for very last-minute changes — we'll flag it if it applies to your booking.

Safety

Every experience runs through an established local operator: PADI/SSI-certified instructors for diving and freediving, IKO-certified instructors for kitesurfing, and experienced Bedouin guides for desert, mountain and camel trips. Safety equipment is included wherever the activity needs it — see What's Included above for specifics — and group sizes are capped so guides can keep an eye on everyone.

FAQ

How do you get there if there's no road?
By boat. You drive from Dahab to the Blue Hole, then a speedboat takes about 20 minutes up the coast to Ras Abu Galum. Some people walk or ride a camel along the coast instead, but on this trip the boat does both ways.
Is this the same as the Ras Abu Galum camel trip?
No. The camel trip rides along the coast to Ras Abu Galum and stays there. This trip goes by speedboat and continues to the Blue Lagoon, so you see more of the protected area in the same day.
Can I stay overnight?
Yes — there are very simple huts at the Blue Lagoon. If you would rather sleep in a Bedouin camp, see our Ras Abu Galum overnight camp.
Is it good for families?
Yes. The Blue Lagoon is calm, shallow near the shore and has a sandy bottom, so it is easy for children to get in and out. Tell us your children's ages when you book.
How much is the park entrance fee?
Foreign visitors pay about $20–25 per person (2026), in US dollar cash at the checkpoint and the Blue Hole. It is not included in the trip price and changes from time to time — we confirm the current amount when you book.
